My BU Acting Debut

By: Connor Lenahan

I cannot act for my life. At all. I don’t know why, but I just feel uncomfortable trying to not be me on camera. I almost died when I acted in my friend Elyse’s play last year at the Abington Heights Playwrights festival. I’m much more comfortable as a writer, or director, or audience, or backstage caterer literally anything other than trying to act. I can barely be me how would I handle being someone else?

That’s what freaked me out about being in the commercial above. I was recruited by BU Athletics to be a part of the promotional video for the men’s basketball team moving to Agganis Arena. I was petrified. Even worse was that I had to ad lib every line. No physical script. It’s a miracle that I didn’t end up crying on camera. I certainly did once we stopped filming. Sorry not sorry.

I thought I did awful. I can’t watch myself on these things ever. I just get embarrassed. I duck my head into my hands and pray for it to all be over. However I did manage to watch some of this. I was shocked about how well I did. Some people (Read: Me) started saying my performance was on par with Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club. There is some late arriving Oscar buzz around my performance in this video. All of it coming from me right now but still. I’m coming for you McConaughey. See you March 2nd pretty boy. Give me my damn Oscar.

On a serious note thank you to BU Athletics for allowing me to be a part of this video. It was a ton of fun and a great way to help get the word out about the highly successful Terriers season (14-7!!). I hope to see people at the game against Army Wednesday night where we will be debuting the new BU Blimp during the game, which will be piloted by yours truly. No, I don’t know why we have a blimp, nor do I know what makes me qualified to be named the captain for it’s maiden voyage, but it’s going down. Literally. There’s a high chance I will break the blimp. So come out Wednesday to see a great basketball game accompanied by a small-scale recreation of the Hindenburg disaster. See you there.
