Serial: Seasons 2 and 3
By: Connor Lenahan
Last winter I briefly went insane. Yes, I’m always insane, but this was more insane than normal. After looking around the world of pop culture and finding every source whose opinion I trust talk about Serial I decided to give it a listen. That “listen” became maybe three days where I finished the entire first season. This was quickly followed by a three week streak of reading every internet piece I could about Adnan Syed, Jay Wilds, Sarah Koeing, and the murder of Hae Min Lee. I am a fan of the murder mystery/investigation genre. Some of my favorite pieces of pop culture in the last two years have been True Detective, The Jinx, Serial, and the entire Investigation Discovery series.
Today I was reading on the AV Club when I saw the news I was awaiting all along. Serial will return for Season 2 this fall.
Then the news I wasn’t expecting.
Season 3 will come out next spring.
Holy shit. I cannot remember a moment where I got this excited over anything. Serial was one of the most addictive, entertaining, fascinating, and brilliant things I have ever witnessed. To this day I am still enamored with it. The thought of a second season has had me excited for over five months. I’m jumping and punching pillows at the news that both of the upcoming seasons are being recorded now.
There’s no news on the cases yet, but that’s great news in and of itself. Let it come with time. I had no clue what Serial was about, outside of a criminal reinvestigation, until I listened to the series. That sensation was unlike any other. To get to experience that again, and then again… I’m really, really, really happy right now.
