Stephen Colbert is Back
By: Connor Lenahan
Here’s something astonishing to think about: Stephen Colbert has been off television since December 18th, 2014. That night was the final broadcast of The Colbert Report. All in all that’s 265 days without one of the most incredible comedic talents of this generation gracing our screens. I have vivid memories of the final episode and everything, but alas it’s been a long, long time.
The good news is that the night that many have been waiting for if here at long last. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will finally premiere tonight and I couldn’t be any happier. Colbert may no longer be playing “Stephen Colbert” from The Colbert Report, but that’s okay. Colbert as himself is still one of the funniest people of all time.
I have no idea what to expect of his show in general. Likely it will be similar to his predecessor David Letterman’s program – this would make a great deal of sense – but that doesn’t matter. As Vulture had mentioned today the fact Colbert is hosting the show is a gift in and of itself. He’s vastly overqualified for the position, which makes his debut all the more exciting.
Tonight will be a fun night. We finally get our crazy late night friend back. Even better, we get to see him like never before – literally.
