I’m pretty sure that I have known Jason Kohn for as long as my memory lasts. That’s the furthest thing from an exaggeration, because he has been a homie since we were in preschool together. I have vivid memories of hanging with this crazy, awesome man back when Pokemon was only first hitting the United States. The only reason I use that as a frame of reference is because this year marks Pokemon’s 20th anniversary. Needless to say, Jason and I go back a while.

There are few people more weird and fun to have around than Jason. I mean that as the ultimate compliment, especially because being a weird person myself I enjoy people that have fun dedication to their hobbies. Jason is the only person who has ever had me accompany him to a 6AM sneaker release, get randomly lost while listening to Waka Flocka Flame and Chance the Rapper, and have an amazing time in general. Side note: Unless my memory is completely wrong, both of those specific events might have happened the same afternoon.

Jason also has made a habit of kicking my ass in all competitions, especially in the XFL. His first season in the league was my urging for him to join us, only to backfire when he blew me out in the championship that same year.

He’s the ultimate homie, as anyone that knows him could tell you. I haven’t seen him nearly as much as I would like because of our crazy schedules with school, but I know in confidence that the next time we meet will likely lead to a 12 hour marathon of pro wrestling and NBA 2K, and that’s exactly how I want it.

Today one of my favorite people that’s been with me for as long as I can remember turns 21. I am confident the celebrations at home will be rightfully amazing, and the drinks are on me the next time we meet up. Happy Birthday JKohn my man!
