Rest Easy, John Saunders
By: Connor Lenahan
One of my dad’s favorite shows to watch every week is The Sports Reporters on ESPN, and as I grew to be a bigger sports fan I would watch with him on any Sunday when I was awake in the morning. The show was anchored for years by John Saunders, one of the most stoic figures in sports. As many have noted today, while the rest of sports coverage got closer to screaming, Saunders remained a calm, charming presence.
John Saunders passed away unexpectedly this morning. He was 61. Saunders was a regular feature of my childhood and one of the sports voices I most enjoyed. This one hurt a lot. Rest easy, John. Thank you for being a good role model for all aspiring broadcast journalists.
