We’re Back

Hey guys, long time no see. It’s been a while since I’ve been back here on Unbreakable. It’s 2017 now, isn’t that crazy? Well, I wanted to check back in to see how things are going. How about that Rose Bowl, huh?

Back in September 2016, I ended up hitting a personal milestone on Unbreakable of 1,000 (ultimately 1,001) days of posting consecutively here on Unbreakable and was overwhelmingly excited about it. At the time I said that I wanted to try and write one piece a week to keep going and finish out the year strong. But then life happened, and things got busier, I got lazy, the election happened, and I fell off of posting. That was partially intentional.

The worst thing that happened to me during that stretch of 1,000 straight days of posts was that I burned myself out on writing. It wasn’t necessarily biting off more than I could chew, but more making myself exhausted to try and do it every single day. Sometimes you are just busy and need to catch a flight, write a final paper for class, or are desperately trying to find snacks around Boston – maybe the last one is just me? I was busy and tired for the last few months of the semester, and a disappointing election and the subsequent fallout certainly weren’t a happy development.

So I elected to take a little vacation. To get some pieces of my life beyond college in order. To take a couple of days to not need to worry about handing in articles to Unbreakable while I was busy working on ones for BU Today. But the last few weeks or so I found myself looking for a reason to write again. I just needed to set my own goal like I did with the everyday posting the first time.

So here’s what I’ve settled on. We are going to try out a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule of posting with potential weekend pieces if there is something to write about. This way I have more time to work on fun stuff – I have some ideas (read: have found other things to rip off) for new topics/formats – and you get less blow off articles or super-forced takes on inconsequential topics.

But more than anything I wanted to start writing again for me. It makes me happy. I missed it. If you read it or enjoy it that’s great. But I just want to have some fun and share things I enjoy with people. Look, 2016 was a fairly awful year, so distractions will be welcome in 2017. Unbreakable is going to be mine, and I hope it’ll be yours as well.

It feels good to be back.
